Details
The 82C59A is a programmable interrupt controller (PIC) chip designed by Intel for use in microprocessor systems. It provides eight levels of interrupt priority and can handle up to 64 individual interrupt sources. The chip is typically used in conjunction with the 8259A PIC to expand the number of interrupt levels available to the system.The 82C59A features a CAS (cascade mode) bit that allows it to operate in cascade mode with another 82C59A chip, effectively providing up to 15 levels of interrupt priority. It can also be set to operate in buffered mode, where the interrupt request lines are buffered to prevent conflicts and improve signal quality.The chip has three 8-bit masks for individual interrupt lines, allowing for selective masking of interrupts. It also features eight programmable interrupt vector locations and an automatic end-of-interrupt (EOI) mode to simplify interrupt handling.
