The APDS-9930 is a digital ambient light and proximity sensor from Broadcom, which is now part of Avago Technologies. This sensor is designed to provide accurate ambient light sensing and proximity detection in a compact package.The APDS-9930 combines an ambient light sensor (ALS) and a proximity sensor in one device, making it ideal for applications such as display dimming, gesture recognition, and proximity detection in various consumer and industrial devices.The ambient light sensor in the APDS-9930 has a dynamic range of 0.6 lux to 10,000 lux, allowing it to provide accurate light intensity measurements in a wide range of lighting conditions. The sensor also features an IR LED for proximity detection, with a maximum range of up to 100mm.The APDS-9930 communicates with a host microcontroller via I2C interface, making it easy to integrate into various systems. The sensor also features interrupt functionality, allowing it to alert the host microcontroller when preset thresholds are met.
