The PCA8574 is an 8-bit I/O expander with I2C-bus/SMBus interface. It allows for easy expansion of I/O capabilities for microcontrollers. The device features 8 quasi-bidirectional I/O ports that can be configured as inputs or outputs. Each I/O port can sink/source up to 25mA.The PCA8574 operates at voltage levels between 2.3V and 5.5V, making it compatible with a wide range of systems. It also has programmable I2C-bus addresses, allowing multiple devices to be connected on the same bus.The device includes a power-on reset feature that sets all I/O ports to their default configuration at power-up. It also includes hardware reset capabilities that can be triggered via the RST pin.Other features of the PCA8574 include input polarity inversion, selectable I2C-bus clock frequencies, and noise filter on SCL/SDA inputs. The device is available in different package options, including TSSOP and SO.
