With the R_S pin providing three different modes of operation (high speed mode, slope control mode, and low-power mode), the SN65HVD231D can be optimized for various applications. In high speed mode, the device switches the transmitter output transistors rapidly without slope limitations. The low current standby mode allows the device to enter a listen-only state with the driver off and the receiver active, reducing power consumption while monitoring the bus for activity to return to normal operation
