The MC6809P is a 8-bit microprocessor from Motorola that was introduced in 1978 as an improvement over the earlier MC6800. It has a clock speed of up to 2 MHz and is designed to use a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 68 clock cycles per machine language instruction. It has a 16-bit address bus that allows it to address up to 64 KB of memory.The MC6809P uses a multiply-accumulator instruction that allows it to perform complex math operations quickly. It also has a built-in DMA (Direct Memory Access) feature that allows it to transfer data between memory and peripherals without using the main CPU. The processor has 16 general-purpose registers, including two dedicated stack pointers and an interrupt vector table.The MC6809P is used in many applications, including industrial control systems, video game consoles, and early personal computers like the Tandy TRS-80 and the Dragon 32. It was also used in some early models of the famous Commodore 64. Despite being released over 40 years ago, the MC6809P remains in use in some specialized systems, demonstrating the longevity of this powerful microprocessor
